Essential guide to “Job Hunting”
Are you doing everything possible to find a job? This guide is purely about perfecting that hunting process. Catching it comes later!
It’s a tough market out there at the moment and you have to move fast to find that dream vacancy before it slips away so here is a checklist of things you should be doing regularly to make sure you aren’t missing out!
• Talk to Friends and Family – Referrals are powerful so make use of your network!
• Apply direct! – Who do you want to work for? If they are appropriate employers then put together your case and contact them. Either send a CV to the HR dept or fill out an application form! If you are not sure how to find a list of companies then take a look at Business Services Directory - UK business services including procurement, telesales, telemarketing, payroll and finance services.
• IT Recruitment Consultant’s – Notice the plural. The days of exclusivity have nigh on gone but it is essential that those recruiters you do contact understand that you want to approve every submission of your CV. Get in writing company names and keep track of who’s who and which recruiter is sending you where! (Employment Companies in Lancashire)
• Online Job Board accounts – There are many out there but try these below:
o CWJobs
o Jobsite
o Technojobs
o Monster
o PlanetRecruit / Hotonline
o Jobstoday
o Jobserve
o TotalJobs
Most of these boards allow you to not only apply for jobs but save your CV so it may be viewed by recruiters. If you are happy to take the calls and serious about your job hunt then make sure you DO THIS! Refresh your CV every so often.
• Job Aggregators – Again there are many of these but try:
o Indeed.co.uk
o Localrecruit.co.uk
o INQJobs.co.uk
Please notice these are tips for those in the IT Recruitment industry. Each market is different and as our focus is IT recruitment that is where we can help. If you are looking for any other type of role please look up specialists in that area eg. Building Design and Construction Vacancies
