10 Top CV & Interview Tips

There is a lot more to writing a CV and perfecting your interview technique than “10 easy steps” but to get you thinking along the right lines, here are a few essentials:

CV Tips

• Your CV should convey your professional and technical skills and how they are relevant to this position.

• Make it easy to read! Keep your CV concise and to the point.

• The quality and presentation of your CV is a first impression to a prospective employer – take your time and take advice from your recruiter!

• Include a punchy Personal Profile to grab the reader’s attention.

• Don’t lie! The idea of a CV is to sell yourself – truthfully!

Interview Tips

• Know the Company and role as well as possible. Preparation is the first essential step towards conducting a successful interview.

• Don’t ramble. If you are offered a glass of water then have one! When you get nervous have a sip of water giving yourself time to think before you speak!

• Dress as smartly as possible. Do not wear casual clothes even if you know that they will.

• Impress your interviewer with your interest in the company and by your articulation of intelligent questions.

• Be Friendly! It is very important that you demonstrate your interpersonal skills during the interview as well as technical knowledge.

• Be prepared to answer questions about any ‘gaps’ or work issues you may feel awkward about. Keep it professional.
